Looking Back on 2017


With the end of the year just around the corner, I again dedicated the very last post of the year to a quick summary. I'm sharing top six most read posts, then six posts of my choice that I worked extra hard on and feel most proud of, and in the last part I share posts from other bloggers I most enjoyed or I feel they should be shared.


This was my seventh year of blogging and it's the year that I noticed a big decline in interest in blogs. It's not just my readership that plummeted, I also recently realised that about 2/3 of blogs I'm subscribed to haven't been updated in a long time. Sad, but that's the reality of blogging now. People read less and less of them. However, a lot of the beauty content moved to social media, especially Instagram Stories and it's where I get a lot more engagement than here.  

I wrote in my last such post that I plan to buy a m.Zuiko 45 mm lens for my camera and I never properly updated you, but I got it and it's the best investment I made. Most of the pictures you see on my blog and Instagram since May are taken with that lens.

Deborah launched a foundation that similarly to Milani's Conceal + Perfect claims it can be used both as a foundation and a concealer, so this is a formula with a high level of coverage. It's a foundation mostly those with oily skin will like because it's a very matte. Texture: Formula is quite creamy, yet still liquid and it's one of those that sets very fast, so you don't have a lot of time to work with it. It needs extra care at blending otherwise you can end up with some splotches where the foundation dried too fast (my skin was dry-normal as I was testing this).  Coverage and finish: Coverage is as promised very high, I think even higher than Revlon's Colorstay, so you can definitely use it as a concealer if you wish. Pixi by Petra Lip Lift Max

I'm not that familiar with Pixi apart from their super hyped up Glow Tonic with AHA, but I got this in a swap from Canada. It's the first lip gloss I've seen that claims it contains peptides, which are anti-ageing ingredients, but the rest is already more common such as the claim it hydrates the lips. In addition to that it's a plumping gloss, meaning it one of those minty ones that tingles at application.  Formula: It's a typical gloss and not one of those super comfy ones (like newest Max Factor Honey Elixir for example), instead it's just a classic non-sticky formula with a nice level of shine. It tingles when you apply it for that plumping effect, which so far never worked on me at any such product, but some swear they see a difference. It's not a strong tingle, but my lips aren't that sensitive to such things, so I might not be feeling the full effect. 183 Days by Trend it up Swing Liner Black

A few months ago a completely new makeup stand almost magically appeared in DM. It's a sort of a spin-off of Trend it Up brand with interesting products and some K-Beauty inspired cutesy packaging. I only took a superficial look of the stand the first time and walked out of the shop, as I tend to first check reviews online if anything is worth checking out and this liner with an interesting design was quite praised, so even though I am a die-hard fan of Catrice's liquid eyeliner and have a back up always in stock, I gave this one a try. Two versions of black eyeliner exist, a glossy and matte one, mine is the latter. There are also a couple of chrome colours, but those are rated poorly. Applicator has an interesting shape of the handle, which I expected to sit comfortably in my hand, but unfortunately the stick with the felt tip is so long that it just doesn't balance nicely if I hold it low on the handle.
